CLINIC OVERVIEW AND TRAINING MISSION
The Cal State Fullerton (CSUF) Speech and Hearing Clinic has two primary missions. The first is to educate and train future speech-language and hearing professionals by providing them with the knowledge, skills and clinical experience to become certified and licensed speech language pathologists and audiologists prepared for the complex and changing demands of the 21st century. The other mission is to provide high quality clinical services to individuals with communication disorders and needs within our surrounding community.
There are three different on-site clinics that operate at different times and on different days to accomplish these two purposes: a) a Child Clinic that provides services to children ages 0-18 years, b) an Adult Clinic that provides services to clients ages 18 years and older, and c) a Multicultural Clinic that provides diagnostic intervention services to clients who primarily speak or are bilingually exposed to a language other than English in their home. The Multicultural Clinic also provides services to clients without communication disorders who are interested in improving or having their overall English language proficiency skills assessed.
PROCEDURES FOR ENROLLING AS A POTENTIAL CLIENT
If you are interested in receiving speech-language therapy, instruction and/or diagnostic testing in one of our clinic, the first step of the process is to call our clinic during normal business hours as listed on our website to talk with one of our clinic assistants. You can also leave a voice-mail message or send an email message and one of our assistants will be back in touch with you at their earliest convenience.
Although it is our goal to accommodate as many clients as possible, given the large demand for our services and the primary training needs of our students which can vary from semester to semester, it is not always possible for us to see everyone who calls to enroll as a potential client. In addition, it can take up to a year or longer for clients to be selected for possible services. For that reason, when you do call, you will be provided with a referral list to other clinics and speech-language-hearing support services that may be able to accommodate your request more immediately or serve as back-up options.
HOW WE SELECT CLIENTS FOR OUR CLINICS
Each clinic has different training criteria for selecting clients but in general, factors such as the following are examples of considerations taken into account by clinic supervisors and coordinators who select clients for each new semester: a) date of initial contact and length of time on our potential client list, b) the type of communication disorder or need and the extent to which that disorder/need meets current student training needs, c) the range of needs and disorders already being served by our clinics (we are required by our national professional association to provide students with a wide variety and diversity of client populations in terms of factors such as disorder, age, language exposure, developmental status.), d) appropriateness of the client given the level of student training, knowledge and skill, and e) clinic space availability.

FEES AND COST OF SERVICES
The cost of services in our clinic is $20 per hour for therapy or accent modification/instruction sessions and $120 for an initial diagnostic evaluation that is conducted with all new clients. Therapy/instruction sessions are typically 50-60 minutes in length. The length of diagnostic testing sessions is typically longer (2-3 hours) but can vary dependent on the clinic and client.
The total cost of services for an academic semester depends on: a) the clinic in which a client is enrolled (Child/Adult or Multicultural) and the number/type of services offered by that clinic and, b) the semester (e.g., Fall or Spring vs. Summer) when services are offered.
Scholarship support is available for all clients upon request on a limited basis pending availability of funds. Fee reductions and waivers are also available for clients with a current Cal State Fullerton affiliation (currently enrolled or employed CSUF students, faculty, staff and administrators) who are directly receiving the services requested.
