Step-by-Step Instructions on Completing the Grad Check Process for Pilot Students
Step 1: Reguarly Check your Campus e-mail Account, as you will be Notified via campus e-mail when your grad check has been reviewed.
- Click on the "Titan Apps" tab on your Student Portal to check your campus e-mail. (Note: you cannot forward your student campus e-mail to another e-mail address; it must be checked directly.)
- In addition, it is also important to update your current mailing address and phone number as well. If you need to update this information, go to the Admissions and Records Service Center (LH-114) to obtain and submit a "Change of Address" form. (Note: students will soon be able to change their preferred address on the New Titan Online.)
Step 2: While you are waiting to be contacted about your grad check review, review your Titan Degree Audit and/or seek out advisement if you have any questions about completing your degree requirements. Do not wait until your grad check is reviewed if you have questions!
The following resources are available to assist you at any point in the grad check process:
General Education/University Requirements: The Academic Advisement Center in UH-123 provides General Education advising, as well as information about general university policies: www.fullerton.edu/aac. They provide walk-in advising services.
Their website also provides an overview of the requirements for the bachelor's degree: http://www.fullerton.edu/aac/Degree_Requirements/overview.asp.
In addition, the Examination in Writing Proficiency (EWP) must be passed prior to graduation: http://www.fullerton.edu/testing/ewp.htm.
Major Requirements: Communications faculty advisors can advise you regarding major requirements. A list of faculty advisors and current office hours can be obtained in the communications department office (CP-400) or by clicking here.
In addition, the College of Communications Advisement Center Coordinator and the Assistant Dean for Student Affairs are also available to assist you. Bring your Titan Degree Audit with you to meetings with an advisor.
Click here for FAQ's about the Titan Degree Audit. Advisors can also assist you with interpreting the TDA.
Special Note: Do you have faculty approved major course substitutions
or approvals?
Examples:
- Collateral substitutions
- Comm 495 substitutions (approved by internship coordinator Pam Caldwell and a faculty advisor)
- Faculty approvals for course equivalencies of non-articulated courses (example: approval of a mass media reporting class taken at Washington State University as meeting Comm 201)
- Faculty approved major course substitutions (example: Comm 334 being approved as a broadcast journalism elective)
If you have approved substitutions that are not reflected on your TDA, contact Advisement Center Coordinator in the College of Communications to arrange for these approvals to be accurately reflected on your TDA grad check. This will expedite the grad check process for you.
Step 3: Check your student e-mail. When all requirements have been reviewed, you will be notified by Admissions and Records with an e-mail message.
Step 4: After you receive e-mail confirmation that your grad check has been reviewed, review your Titan Degree Audit and submit the "Declaration of Candidacy" form to the graduation unit in LH-114. (You cannot submit this form until you have received this confirmation.)
Follow the instructions in the e-mail message you receive, as it will explain your next steps in the process. To become an official candidate for graduation, you will need to submit a "Declaration of Candidacy" form (you will be directed to a website where you can print out this two-page form). Complete this form and sign it (there is no cost associated with this form).
Special Note: The graduation date you select at this point does NOT need to match the date you indicated on the grad check application you submitted.
Make sure you carefully review your TDA, as it is now your official grad check document. Seek the appropriate advising should you have questions. Print a copy of your TDA as documentation of your graduation requirements.
Step 5: Meet with a communications faculty advisor to review major requirements, verify final course completion, and receive career advising.
Print out your Titan Degree Audit and visit with a faculty advisor in your concentration. A list of faculty advisors and current office hours can be obtained in the communications department office (CP-400) or by Clicking here. Faculty advisors can assist you with understanding major requirements, as well as provide career advisement in your concentration.
In addition, if you have questions about unit completion for the degree, including the 80 units outside of communications/65 units in the liberal arts, the College of Communications Advisement Center Coordinator and Assistant Dean for Student Affairs can assist you.
If you have further questions about general education, visit the Academic Advisement Center (UH-123): www.fullerton.edu/aac.
