Frequently Asked Questions
This section will be continuously updated and organized with much more information, but here are a few common questions for now!
How do I declare a minor?
- Pick up a "Request for Minor Objective" form at the Admissions and Records Service Center (LH-114).
- Have the form signed by the appropriate staff member or advisor for your minor's department. (Department office locations for the College of Communications' minors: Communications--CP 400; Human Communication Studies--CP 420-1; Radio-TV-Film--CP 650-8.)
- Return the signed form to Admissions and Records (LH-114); there may be a processing fee.
How do I declare (or change) my concentration in communications, if I
am already declared as a communications major?
- Pick up an "Undergraduate Change of Academic Objective" form at the Admissions and Records Service Center (LH-114). (The College of Communications Advisement Center or the Department of Communications office might have copies of this form on hand as well.)
- Complete either the "Declare Concentration" or "Change Concentration" section, whichever is applicable to you.
- Take the form to the Department of Communications office (CP 400) to obtain the department approval signature.
- Return the signed form to Admissions and Records (LH-114); there will not be a fee if you are already a declared communications major.
I tried registering for a class and I could not add it. What do I do?
Make sure you take note of what the error message stated, so you can problem-solve appropriately. Here are some questions to consider:
- Are you having difficulty registering for one particular class, or do you have a registration hold preventing you from registering for any classes? Check your "Holds" box on your Student Center to ensure you do not have a registration hold.
- Have you met the prerequisites for the class with a grade of C or better, and are those prerequisites listed on your Titan Degree Audit?
- Does the class require "junior standing"? (Junior standing is defined by having earned 60 or more units.)
- Do you need to be declared in a particular major or minor before being allowed to enroll in the course? (The "Enrollment Requirements" box in the course details on Titan Online will tell you this.)
If you feel you have met the prerequisites and other requirements, consult the course's department office for assistance.
