Assistant Dean, College of Communications
Dr. Robert Flores serves as the Assistant Dean for Student Affairs in the College of Communications and joined the academic college in 2016 after serving in several different roles at the CSUF, Irvine Center since 2002. During his tenure at the Irvine Center, he implemented student leadership programs, orientation activities, scholarships, career center operations, and disability support services.
In his current role, Dr. Flores spearheaded the college’s new Student Success Center (SSC) establishment that supports over 2,800 students per year. He oversees the SSC operations and assessment practices and collaborates with the associate dean to lead the college's Student Success Team, comprised of college staff and faculty. Additionally, Dr. Flores maintains strong partnerships with the students, college dean, and critical campus stakeholders to deliver services that support students' progress toward a degree and their professional objectives.
As a Latinx, first-generation college student, and proud CSU graduate, Dr. Flores, creates practices that embrace diversity, equity, and inclusion across all areas and is committed to closing the achievement gap of first-generation and underrepresented students. As a member of the college's leadership team, Dr. Flores is dedicated to the academic college's mission, which is to prepare communicators to advance a democratic society by undertaking critical academic inquiry, serving the community, and engaging in ethical and professional practice across all communications industries and in related fields.
Dr. Flores received a bachelor's degree in sociology from San Diego State University, a master’s degree from Seattle University in student development administration, and an Ed.D. from Azusa Pacific University in higher education leadership. Dr. Flores' research interests include identity-based career development practices to support underrepresented and first-generation college students.
