My Summer Vacation!

Faculty were all over the world—and perhaps out of this world--this summer. For example…

…DIANE WITMER spent five days eating, sleeping and diving in Bonaire…LAURA TRIPLETT traveled to South Africa where she saw more than her share of baboons…MARK LATONERO and HENRY PUENTE traveled separately to Argentina where they almost turned into Popsicles…PUENTE also traveled to Uruguay and Brazil…

…ANDI STEIN journeyed to China and Thailand, where she survived the Bangkok traffic and a jungle elephant ride...She, along with CAROL AMES, attended the International Journalism Conference in spotless Singapore…KUEN-HE JU-PAK visited relatives in Korea after teaching in Hong Kong…

…Closer to home, XTINE HANSON, wearing her very fashionable sneakers, visited New York, bicycling through Prospect Park, Central Park, Chinatown, Chelsea, Times Square, Harold Square, over the Brooklyn Bridge and the Manhattan Bridge. And, yes, she wore a very fashionable helmet…CINDY KING took fifth place (out of more than 400 teams) at the International Volleyball Tournament in Mexico then went on to win the summer CAL 20 Long Beach yacht racing series and to place in the top 10 in the North American Championships… DENNIS GASCHEN also went to his casa south of the border to practice his Spanish at the local cantina—“mas cerveza, por favor!”…

…GENELLE BELMAS visited her parents in Wisconsin …JEFF BRODY traveled to San Francisco where his son is attending college…RICK PULLEN headed to Park City, Utah, to visit family and friends…PAM CALDWELL went camping with her family in magnificent Yosemite… ROY RIVENBURG recuperated from 15 years at the Los Angeles Times by visiting Napa and Carmel…HOLLY OCASIO RIZZO stayed put in San Clemente but got a set of congas and played with Carlos Santana on breaks from freelance writing…KRISTIANNE KOCH RIDDLE went surfing, free boarding and boating on Coronado and then sailed 11 hours in a 38’ sailboat to Cherry Cove on Catalina Island where she saw blue whales and dolphins then witnessed a 65’ Hatteras burn at its mooring and sink in the middle of the night…MIKE BOWER took a two-week wedding anniversary cruise to Hawaii. Yes, he brought his bride!…

…And, speaking of islands, CORAL OHL went from one island to another---in this case Oahu to Catalina. And, yes, she returned with all her body parts!
