He is the winner of the prestigious Viewers for Quality Television Award, multiple Saturn Awards, and the Sci-Fi Universe Life Achievement Award.

He was nominated for the Mystery Writers Edgar Allan Poe Award and, for V, the Writers Guild of America Award.
