Sponsors wanted!

It's not too late to join the Cal State Fullerton stop of the NPPA Flying Short Course!

We are deeply indebted to our sponsors and the many local and national companies that help support our programs. Without their generous support we could not offer such a dynamic program for our students, Southern California and the entire photojournalism community.  We are proud and honored to be the only stop this year west of the Mississippi.

Below you'll find our official fund-raising letter. It details the many ways you can be a part of this fantastic event. Please join us and help promote the dynamic and truthful storytelling that the NPPA champions. Truthfulness in the media has been been more vital to our society, and with your help we will continue to train, inspire and enable the next generation of photojournalists.

Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions that may not be answered below.

Thank you, and I look forward to hearing from you.

The official Sponsorship letter and donation form:

This year, the Communications Department of Cal State Fullerton is proud to host the 49th Annual Flying Short Course on October 20, 21 and 22, 2006. This premier annual educational photojournalism seminar event is put together by the National Press Photographers Association and serves to educate and inspire photojournalists across the U.S.

Beginning Friday evening, October 20 and continuing through Sunday, October 22, the Short Course will provide hands-on workshops, educational presentations, portfolio reviews and interactive discussions on topics including photographic ethics, freelancing, motivations and satisfactions, and many, many more.  Sunday, October 22, will be the day-long presentation by the national faculty.   We expect at least 300 students and working professionals to attend both days, and our audience will draw from all of the western states.  Registration to attend is $80.

Friday evening we kick off with a reception for the West Coast's long-time photojournalism instructors.  Saturday’s presentations will include: Brian Smith, president of Editorial Photographers; Rick Rickman, Ron Mann, Hal Stoelzle and Brian Smith of the Orange County Register's 1985 Pulitzer Prize winning photography team; Lighting master and Life magazine veteran Joe McNally (tentative); Ron Haviv, Canon's Explorers of Light.

Sunday’s presentations will include a national faculty of award-winning photojournalists and editors David Guttenfelder /AP - NPPA Best of Photojournalism Photographer of the Year (Over 115,000 circulation); Michel duCille / Washington Post - 2 time Pulitzer Prize winner for photography; Gail Fisher - Editor of multimedia and special projects of the Los Angeles Times; Josh Meltzer - Roanoke Times, and NPPA Best of Photojournalism Photographer of the Year - (under 115,000 circulation)

We are expecting over 300 attendees from photography students to seasoned professionals. To produce the event we need and invite your support. Financial help is at the top of the list, of course. We also seek support in the form of donated prizes, entertainment or dining sponsorship.

Sponsorship opportunities for the Short Course are as follows:

In return your advertising will be included in all of our printed materials and promotions, high-profile acknowledgements during each day's presentation and, most importantly, the chance to showcase your business to hundreds of potential customers you otherwise might not be able to reach.  And, as you know, Fullerton is a town that thrives on local participation, and we want to put our best foot forward as a group to show our guests the good life that we enjoy here.  All sponsorships will ensure your logo in all printed programs and on the CSUF web site. Please refer to the enclosed sponsorship gift agreement for specifics.  The deadline for inclusion is September 30, 2006.

Should you have any questions about the sponsorships or your attendance at the Flying Short Course, please feel free to contact me at dbarber@fullerton.edu or (657) 278-8399. Your consideration is greatly appreciated.
