Application Process
Please note that some materials are sent to the Office
of Admissions & Record, and others are sent directly
to the Communications Graduate Secretary. Addresses
appear below.
The applicant should complete the following steps:
- A formal application for admission must be filed
with the Office of Admissions and Records, which can
be done online at http://www.csumentor.edu/AdmissionApp/.
- Arrange for official transcripts from all universities
and colleges you have attended to be sent to Admissions
and Records. Note: these transcripts must be forwarded
directly from the institutions involved.
- Take the General Test of the Graduate Record Examination
(GRE). Information concerning the GRE can usually
be obtained at the testing center on most college
campuses, or go online to: http://www.ets.org
for information on the exam, including dates and locations.
Practice exams are available, as well.
- Arrange for three letters of recommendation from
faculty or employers to be sent. Recommendation forms
are available on this Web site and can be sent electronically
to your reference writers.
- Compose an essay of about 1,000 words explaining
your motivations for pursuing the master's degree
in communications.
- Include a resume of professional experience if
you are applying for the Concentration in Professional
Communications.
- Send the application, fee, and transcripts to:

For Fall Admission: February 1
of the same year
For Spring Admission: November 1
of the preceding year
What Happens Next?
Materials sent to the Office of Admissions & Records
are evaluated and then sent to the Department of Communications.
This process may take several weeks. Once all materials
are received in the department, the Graduate Applications
Committee reviews a student's application file. This
reviewing process begins soon after the application
deadline and continues until all files have been reviewed.
Accepted students may enroll for courses in the largest
and most comprehensive mass communications program on
the West Coast. Students are notified by mail of their
admission status immediately following evaluation.
