A masters degree in communications prepares graduates
for a number of careers. Many of our alumni are professionals
in media management, creative fields, research, teaching,
or are practitioners in the various media industries.
Professors and students take advantage of top media industries
located nearby in the Los Angeles and Orange Country.
Internship opportunities are available for students without
previous media related experience to help you get started
in your career. On-the-jobs training provides valuable experience
and networking contact for future employment.
The program offers courses in four distinct areas: advertising,
entertainment, journalism and public relations. Students
customize their study plans to meet individual goals.
Our courses in advertising prepare you for entry or advanced
level positions in any number of basic advertising activities.
These include creative copywriting, layout and design, media
planning, media research, account planning and account management
in either advertising agencies or advertising and marketing
departments in industry.
Entertainment is a flourishing industry in Southern California,
and our program includes courses relating to the field to
help you find practitioner and management careers in travel
and tourism, event planning, music and sports promotion, and
venue management.
Our courses in journalism provide a stepping stone toward your publication
and management goals. Many of our graduates enter careers
at major newspapers or magazines, or become successful broadcast
journalists.
Courses in relations provide preparation in both theory and
practice of two-way communication and management counsel for
prospective professional public relations careers in business,
industry, agency, government, and non-profit sectors of society.
