Application Procedures

Application for the M.A. in speech communication requires that certain forms be filed with the Office of Admissions and Records and that certain documents be filed with the Department. The Department cannot process applications until all documents are on file. The documents that must be filed include:

  1. A formal application for admission must be filed with the Office of Admissions and Records (this is available on line).
  2. Two copies of official transcripts from all institutions which the applicant has attended must be filed with the Office of Admissions and Records.
  3. Three letters of recommendation commenting on the student's academic ability should be sent directly to the Graduate Adviser by the recommenders (the recommendation form is available for downloading in the "Forms" section of this web site).
  4. A letter of intent stating the students's professional objectives and goals should be submitted to the Graduate Adviser.
  5. Applicants are encouraged, but not required, to submit a sample of their writing to the Graduate Adviser.
  6. International students' TOEFL scores are sent to the Office of Admissions and Records.

The deadline for fall applications is March 1, and the deadline for spring applications is November 1. International students are advised to examine the International Education Office web site for other requirements specific to them.
