-For Spring admission:
Our priority deadline (which must be met if an individual is also applying to be a Teaching Associate) for all materials to be received by the university and department is October 1st. Other applicants should arrange for all materials (including transcripts and recommendations) to be received by the university and department no later than November 1st (earlier is preferred).
How to Apply:
There are two levels of application that must be completed: the university application and the department application.
Go to Cal State Apply (https://www2.calstate.edu/apply) to submit an application for graduate admissions to our program (Communication Studies).
As part of your university (online) application, you will be required to submit official transcripts to the university. (Please see the online application for further details.)
Please submit a hard-copy packet of the following materials:
Letter of application (also known as a “letter of intent” or “statement of purpose”).
Writing sample. Please submit a scholarly paper (ideally, a research paper such as a literature review or proposal) that you have written (no group papers). Although it is recommended that you submit a single paper that is a minimum of 7-10 pages of text (plus references, etc.), you can submit two shorter papers (totaling at least ten pages) if needed.
Three recommendations using the department’s form (accompanied by letters). These can be submitted directly by the recommender (via email or hard copy to Dr. Summer Martin) or by you (in an envelope that has been signed and sealed by the recommender) with the rest of your application materials. Ideally, all or the majority of your references should be faculty members (who can speak to your academic performance).
