As the college continues to grow and flourish, every effort is made to celebrate studentsuccess and recognize academic achievement within the college.
One of the most valuable elements of our students’ education is their participation in activities outside the classroom. Studies show that co-curricular involvement enhances the college experience. This type of intentional learning dramatically contributes to both personal and professional growth and enhances students’ professional preparation.

leaders Student leaders and club advisors were honored recently at the inaugural Leadership Recognition Brunch held at the Arboretum on June 7. Each student organization/club president received a Leadership Award and certificates were presented to club advisers in recognition of their year-long efforts.

More than 100 speakers, along with many students and faculty, participated in the 26th celebration of Communications Week, May 3-7. The Comm Week student taskforce, under the direction of Professors Caldwell and Gaschen, held more thatn 30 special events during this incredible week.
The AAF team, led by Erin Hetrick and Peter Corsello, put together a highly professional advertising campaign for the state of Florida, placing third in regional competition.
The Daily Titan won numerous awards this year, including SPJ Region 11 First place in both General News and News Photography; Newspaper of the Year -- third place from the Associated Collegiate Press; first place in editorial page design from the Student Society for News Design; and second in both Newspaper Design and Environmental Portrait from the California Intercollegiate Press Association. commgradsStudents from CommGrads, Titan Internet Radio, SPJ, and PRSSA sought funding and participated in several professional conferences this year. Professor Massey’s paper on “United Airlines’ image restoration strategies: A Discourse of Renewal,” coauthored by three undergraduate students, took the top award at the Annual Conference of the Corporate Communication Institute in Wroxton, England. The Entertainment Studies program has built upon existing relationships with industry partners. The number of students involved in the planning and executing the Newport Beach Film Festival doubled from the previous year.

Will Sidner, also a broadcast student, was a 17th place finalist in the Features category of the national William Randolph Hearst television competition.
As a former faculty adviser, I know how much time and energy our faculty members devote to their student groups, providing coaching, mentoring, advice and often, just a solid anchor for their students as they work to achieve their successes. At this year's Academic Advisement Institute Shelley Jenkins was named one of just a few Outstanding Advisors for 2003-04. She was nominated for her superb work as the faculty advisor to the TV-Film Society, as well as her ongoing, consistent, informed, and kind advising of students.
