On May 30, 2007 approximately 80 alumni gathered for
the annual evening of socializing and networking at
the Jonathon Club in Los Angeles. This year’s
featured speakers were Stan and Jaime Chambers, the
grandfather/grandson team of news reporters for KTLA,
Channel 5. Alumna Renee Sams ’86 was instrumental
in securing the duo of speakers.

Stan has been involved with news since television started
in 1947. It would be hard to find another individual
who has had that long of career in front of the camera.
They discussed how they came about their careers in
news (Jaime is one of 60 grandchildren and the only
family member to follow in his grandfather’s footsteps),
some of the top stories they witnessed and were able
to report, important moments in their careers and the
vast differences between when Stan started in television
compared to when Jaime started working in the business.
It was a very lively presentation and enjoyed immensely
by everyone.
In addition to the speakers, there was a raffle for
alumni present. Communications alumnus Scott Weller,
Senior VP National Sales Manager for CNN provided many
coveted items for the raffle.

Representing the College of Communications were a number
of administrators, faculty and students. Dean Pullen,
Assistant Dean Bockman, Director of Development –
Nancy Byrne, Daily Titan Business Advisor—Robert
Sage interacted with many alumni who graduated from
our program. Student Ambassadors from the college, Sarah
Oak, Collette Jones, Sarah Montecinos, Aileen Buigues
and Stephanie Birdett enjoyed networking and the opportunity
to meet industry professionals.
