Rick Pullen joined Yen Do, founder and publisher
of Nguoi Viet Daily News, at the newspaper in
Little Saigon for an official announcement of
the papers $30,000 pledge to the College of Communications.
Yen Do, founder and publisher of
Nguoi Viet Daily News, has pledged $30,000 over
five years to the College of Communications to
create the Yen N. Do Scholarly Research Fund.
The first $10,000 was given this month.
The fund supports topics of research that will
benefit Vietnamese and Southeast Asians cultures
living in Southern California. The pledge was
made to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the
Vietnamese emigration to the United States.
"We focus on education, as education is
one of our top priorities--as Vietnamese Americans
and as a newspaper," said Do, whose Westminster-based
daily is the oldest Vietnamese language publication
in the United States. "We want to help those
who help the young people stretch their minds
and stir their souls. I have seen that in the
College of Communications, and
I admire teachers who deeply inspire their students,"
he concluded.
The College of Communications has maintained
a long term relationship with Nguoi Viet Daily
News and the Vietnamese community. Yen Do previously
served on the Dean's Advisory Board. Currently,
Anh Do, Editor, Nguoi Viet 2 and CFO of Nguoi
Viet, serves on the Advisory Board.
"This support will enable faculty to conduct
beneficial research that may not otherwise I have
been possible," Rick Pullen said. "We
are grateful and appreciate our wonderful relationship
with the Do family and the Vietnamese community."
