The Daily Titan celebrated its 45th anniversary on
Jan. 4, 1960, the inaugural year of Orange County State
College, which held classes at Sunny Hills High School.
Dean of Students Ernest Becker (deceased) served as
the first adviser.
The paper was published weekly, or less frequently,
until 1965-66 when it was published twice weekly on
Tuesdays and Fridays. Jim Drummond, long-time area educator
and currently a local newspaper columnist, was the first
editor of the twice weekly publication. The paper began
a three day-a-week publication schedule in 1968 and
became known its as the Titan. One year later, it adopted
a four-day-a-week scheduleand became known as the Daily
Titan.
Following Becker as advisers were J. William Maxwell
and Jim Alexander, founders of the Department of Communications.
In its 45 years, the student newspaper has had11 different
advisers.
KOCE aired a special report on "Real Orange"
after visiting the newspaper and meeting with present
adviser Tom Clanin.
Two former advisers are currently publication on faculty:
Jeff Brody and Rick known Pullen.
