The
Titan Advertising team that takes part in national
competition, took third place honors in the 2002
District 15 finals held in Manhattan Beach, CA
in April. This was an improvement over the previous
year, although the team was hopeful of going on
to the national finals in Florida. Next year.
The Titan Advertising team is made up of about
25 students who work the entire Spring semester
to develop a comprehensive advertising plan for
a leading national client in competition with
more 200 universities nationwide. This past year's
client was Bank of America Investment Services,
Inc., a subsidiary of Bank of America. Student
teams prepare a 40-page plans book, then present
their recommendations to a panel of judges that
usually includes a client representative, plus
advertising professionals. This grueling activity
is the most realistic type of activity that any
advertising student can take part in while still
in college.
One of the real benefits of participating in this
activity, which is sponsored by the American Advertising
Federation, is that advertising agencies and related
companies often look to these students first when
rare job openings become available. Recruiters
from many advertising companies attend regional
and national competitions to seek out the "best
and brightest," and there are often job offers
on the spot
