Tusk Magazine staff took National Honors

Tusk MagazineEditor Crystal Lafata and the Tusk Magazine staff took national honors at the recent convention of the Society of Professional Journalists in Chicago.

Tusk Magazine received the Mark of Excellence Award as a finalist in two categories, Best All-Around Online Student Magazine and Best Student Magazine (published once a year).

This places Tusk in the top three entries among universities across the country for both categories. Tusk had won the Western regionals.

The magazine and web site were judged for content, design, editing and photography. Students in Communications 437 (Advanced Magazine Writing) and Communications 434 (The Magazine Industry and Production) serve as the staff of the magazine, which is produced once a year.

"This shows our students can compete against the best universities in the nation," said Professor Jeffrey Brody, the magazine adviser. "Tusk aims for the highest standards of excellence."
