Southern California Debate League Summer Institute

SCUDLThe Southern California Urban Debate League (SCUDL), housed in the Department of Speech Communication at CSUF, hosted its second summer institute July 8-15. Students from all over southern California from economically under-served high schools were invited to spend a week at CSUF to learn basic and advanced policy debate skills.

scudl One hundred and twenty students attended the institute. An overwhelming number indicated that they intended to keep debating next year! The institute culminated in a four round debate tournament where students were given the opportunity to test out their new-found debate skills. Students were instructed by some of the most talented debate coaches and college debaters from across the US. Several CSUF undergraduate and graduate students were part of this very talented staff including: Toni Nielson, Josh Clark, Cameron Ward, RJ Dolbin, Gabe Cornejo, Howard Nguyen, Josh Gregory, Casey Arbenz, Jason Cramer, Tanise Collymore, Bill Neesen, Amy Dempster and Kasim Alimahamed. The SCUDL is always looking for volunteers to help put on fantastic events like this one. Debate experience is not necessary! If you are interested please email Sylvia Beltran at SCUDL2000@aol.com.
