Guerin L. Butterworth Travel Award

The Guerin L. Butterworth Endowment Fund was established in June, 2017 by a gift of $25,000 from Sterling Franklin, Trustee of the Morris S. Smith Foundation, and a friend of Guerin Butterworth. Guerin and Sterling met in 1987 when they were associates at the downtown Los Angeles law firm of Kirtland & Packard, where they practiced insurance defense law. After a few years, they went their separate ways, but then they reconnected in mid-2016. Sterling learned only then that Guerin was a 1978 graduate of Cal State Fullerton. Sterling decided to honor Guerin by establishing the Guerin L. Butterworth Endowment Fund. Sterling also gave a cash gift of $750 so that the Guerin L. Butterworth Stipend could be awarded in fall, 2017, while the endowment fund is earning investment income. A Butterworth Stipend of $750 will be awarded to the CSUF Debate Program each year to help with the expenses of the CSUF Debate Program.
