Pathway 1

Students who hold a bachelor's degree in Communication Sciences and Disorders

The M.S. program admits a cohort of 30 students each fall. Students complete academic coursework together in a structured, sequenced curriculum.  The program is completed over four semesters (Fall and Spring) plus one or two summer terms, depending on each student’s needs to meet ASHA certification and/or credential requirements.

Clinical placements vary by student and occur in the following progression: Year 1 in the Speech and Hearing Clinic serving children and adult clients, and Year 2 in externship placements in public schools and hospitals or private practice settings.

The program also offers elective clinical practicum opportunities, including Gender-Affirming Voice Communication and Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC).

Pathway 2 (Master's Prepatory Certificate Program)

Students who hold a bachelor's degree in a major other than Communication Sciences and Disorders

The Master’s Preparatory Certificate Program in Communication Sciences and Disorders (CSD) at California State University, Fullerton is an in-person post-baccalaureate program. This program is for students with a bachelor’s degree in another field who need CSD prerequisite coursework to apply to graduate programs in speech-language pathology.

Students complete 13 required courses in 3–4 semesters, depending on their course load. They are encouraged to gain related experience through volunteering in public schools, hospitals, or private practice clinics to connect coursework to clinical practice.

The program prepares students to apply to CSUF’s M.S. program in Communicative Disorders and other graduate programs.
