Tell us a little bit about your college experience, and what you’re doing now.
I am currently the Jr. Community Manager at Casanova McCann (advertising agency) in Costa Mesa, California.
When I was in college, I interned at Bridal and Event Lounge, VPE Public Relations and the National Association of Latino Independent Producers (NALIP) prior to ending up at Casanova McCann as their social media intern for the summer. At the end of the summer, they extended my internship and switched my title to Jr. Community Manager, which is where I’m at now.
How did LCI help shape your personal and/or professional goals?
LCI played a huge role in getting me to where I am today. When I first joined the group my senior year, I was inspired by my peers and their achievements. They motivated me to work hard regardless of the obstacles I might face. They also taught me the importance of networking and having a professional support system.
I obtained my internships with the help of my fellow LC’s and Inez. Inez pushed me to network and step out of my comfort zone.
I have interned with many LC’s and they have become some of my closest friends. I can’t thank them enough for all their support and encouragement. They have not only helped me in my professional life, but in my personal life as well.
What is one lesson learned that you have been able to apply to your career or personal life?
The biggest lesson I have learned is to always step out of your comfort zone. If you feel uncomfortable, you are learning. It can be a new skill, meeting a new person, speaking up, or having to solve an issue, you are always learning.
What advice would you give to current LCI members?
Network! - You’re going to land many internships/jobs through networking. It’s a small world once you enter your field and you will be surprised by how many of them know each other. Always maintain great connections with everyone you meet and be nice to everyone. Being nice goes a long way.
