What made you choose your major/career
- Since middle school, I've known I wanted to be on television presenting news. It's always been and forever will be a passion of mine.
What communication classes do you recommend students take?
- I would recommend any classes with Professor Mahi, Dr. Reynolds, and Jesus Ayala. These professors will give you EXACTLY what the real world will give you.
Share with us a pivotal experience at CSUF that got you to where you are today.
- Joining Jesus Ayala's COMM 372 course was a pivotal experience for me at CSUF. I didn't know how to get my first job out of college until Jesus told me what I needed before applying. His teachings prepared me for my first job.
What do you do in your job (duties)?
- Every morning, I pitch stories ideas. Once approved, it is my job to schedule and grab interviews, grab videos, and make creative stand-ups for packages. Then, I edit all these on Adobe Premiere Pro. I write a script for the anchor and submit all video materials. To end my shift, I write a web article about my story or stories of the day.
What do you think helped you land your current position?
- CSUF staff and faculty helped me land my current position. If it weren't for them, I would be lost when applying to jobs.
How did LCI help you?
- LCI helped me by teaching me to go beyond the campus. LCI taught me that being involved in the community is just as important as being involved on campus. Connections are everywhere.
Advice: to students pursuing a career in your field
- Stay ambitious! Stay hungry! Nobody said it's a perfect world. Stay ambitious to meet your goals. Stay hungry to overcome any challenges.
How have your goals and aspirations changed since you graduated?
- Before, all I wanted to do is be on camera. Now after working full-time for a few months, I've realized that I enjoy journalism on or off-camera. My goal now is to be involved in journalism for as long as I can, on or off-camera whether as an Anchor or a Producer. Let's do them all!
What is one lesson learned that you have been able to apply to your career or personal life?
- One lesson I've learned that I will always keep: research everything before doing anything.
