S. Irene Matz, Ph.D., is an associate professor in the Department of Communication Studies. She served as the associate dean and interim dean for the College of Communications at California State University, Fullerton for seven years where she led 80 full-time and 100 part-time faculty with an annual budget of $8.5M that served 4,000 students.

She earned her doctorate from Claremont Graduate University in education focusing on leadership and bachelor and master degrees in speech communication. She was awarded the 2014 College of Education’s Honor an Educator Award and was nominated for the University Faculty Leadership in Collegial Governance Award for 2017.

Her research includes women leaders, leadership, ethics, first ladies in the White House and organizational communication.
