Summer Carnett Martin (Ph.D., University of Illinois) is an Associate Professor in the Department of Human Communication Studies at CSU Fullerton. She is also the graduate advisor for students seeking an M.A. in Communication Studies.Dr. Martin specializes in health and interpersonal communication, and particularly loves teaching and conducting research in these areas. Examples of courses taught include research methods (HCOM 300, HCOM 509) and classes focusing on interpersonal or health communication (such as HCOM 318, HCOM 413, and HCOM 425).

Dr. Martin has investigated a variety of interpersonal health communication topics related to chronic illness (for instance, uncertainty, social support, and the communication of identity). Her work has been honored with top paper awards by NCA and WSCA, and has been published in various journals, including Communication Monographs, Health Communication, Journal of Family Nursing, Journal of Neuroscience Nursing, Qualitative Health Research, Qualitative Communication Research and Communication & Medicine.
