Communication Sciences and Disorders to Hold Toy Modification Drive for Children with Motoric Impairments

Calling all SLPs, teachers, PTs, OTs, parents, and students! Did you know that children with motoric impairments can’t access certain toys that light up, make sounds, or move? Of course you Ph.D.s do, you're special education savvy. But for those students who do not, it’s because the “push here” button is too small. Toy companies sell modified toys for AAC users…for up to $150 dollars! Luckily, Dr. Brock and Ellen Bustamante M.S. CCC-SLP know how to modify regular toys so that our AAC users can access and afford them. Want to learn? Come join us for a toy modification drive where you will donate a toy and learn how to adapt that toy for a child with physical or motor impairments.
What do you need?  Bring a couple toys that have ONE "push here" button to activate the toy's movement, lights, vibration, or sound. Not sure about what toy to bring? See our Amazon wishlist  https://goo.gl/SbJ9J3 . Gently used toys or toys from a garage sale are perfect!
The event is technically FREE, but you need to bring one toy to enter the workshop. We will provide all other tools to adapt your toy.

How to sign up?  https://goo.gl/K9G3Md  RSVP at this link for one or both sessions.
