Leah Thompson, Teacher's Assistant

 

 

 

Michelle Kurland has been teaching at CSUF since 2005. She is passionate about Communications and earned her B.A. in Communication Studies from UC Santa Barbara and her M.A. in Communications with an emphasis in Public Relations from California State University, Fullerton. She teaches courses in Event Planning, Advertising, Advertising Media Sales and Public Relations and serves as the faculty advertising adviser to Comm Week and CSUF’s student-run media organization, the Daily Titan.
Prior to teaching, Michelle worked as a vice president in the Consumer Products Division for Porter Novelli, a global, marketing-based communications agency. For nearly nine years, she managed major account teams on both the agency and client side with $1 million-plus budgets. Her work covered consumer, social marketing, public affairs, youth marketing, healthcare, business-to-business and food and nutrition. Clients included Rolls Royce, Nissan, McDonald’s, The Jim Henson Company, Krispy Kreme, Oral-B and the Anaheim Orange County Visitor & Convention Bureau. In addition, Michelle led public relations projects for the State of California that focused on breast cancer early detection and the promotion of extracurricular reading for K-8 students.
Prior to Porter Novelli, Michelle worked in the Sales Promotions Division of Nordstrom and managed all media relations activities for the Greater Orange County area.
Her areas of expertise include integrated marketing, product launches, strategic planning, media training, trade outreach, special events, internal communications, and crisis communications.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Leah Thompson is a public relations major with a passion for event planning and social media relations. As a Teacher’s assistant of COMM WEEK, Leah is looking forward to planning the event for the second time and guiding students of the COMM WEEK Task Force. She hopes to get experience and enjoyment out of this event even more than before!
