Black CommUnity aims to assist in the retention and inclusion of Black students within the Department of Communications by (1) creating a stronger sense of community and belonging among Black students and (2) supporting and preparing students for communications coursework, internships and careers. Through faculty mentoring, formal and informal events, this program encourages students to build community and professional networks. Programing includes monthly events such as workshops, panels and coffee breaks in addition to selective opportunities such as internship stipends and conference travel. By participating in Black CommUnity students are able to establish peer-to-peer, student-to-faculty and student-to-employer connections.
