The Maxwell Center manages international programs for the College of Communications at Cal State Fullerton. As part of its student centered internationally focused educational efforts the Maxwell Center has developed and will continue developing and supporting communications focused study abroad programs. Currently the list of programs includes those outlined below, and others will be added as they become available. SHORT TERM STUDY ABROAD PROGRAMS SUMMER 2022
CTVA Barcelona Spain (Summer 2022) (Click here to go to the Terra Dotta application page)
This program features courses in International Reality TV (CTVA 366) and HCOM 320 Intercultural Communications, and is taught by professors with extensive professional experience. Barcelona is one of the largest and most iconic cities in Spain and is located on the coast of the beautiful Mediterranean Sea. This program trains students to produce content across a wide variety of platforms, and to understand and work with those from other cultures. Students that attend this program will stay in the modern and beautiful "The Student Hotel" Barcelona, which features single rooms, lounge, fitness, and roof-top pool facilities. Students in this program take CTVA 360 International Reality TV and HCOM 320 Intercultural Communications, which is an upper division category D GE & Z Overlay. The cost for this 4-week program that runs from May 28th-June 2th is $2480+ CSUF Summer Tution. Click on the link above to get more information and to apply. TENTATIVE Short-Term Programs
COM Greece: Athens
This summer program starts on the CSUF campus for the first part of the course. Students then travel to Greece with their professors for two weeks, studying interculutral communications and feature writing as well as touring Athens, Delphi, Olympia, and three nearby saronic islands while learning the history and culture of Greece. Courses include: HCOM 320 Intercultural Communication (GE & COM collateral), and COM 334 Feature Writing (COM required writing course). Cost includes tuition, airfare, hotel, and most meals. Florence Summer Program - Florence, Italy
This summer program allows you to live and study in beautiful Florence, Italy, while taking courses courses offered in the College of Communications. In summer 2020 this program run for 6 weeks with an online component for 4 weeks and an opportunity to travel to Italy for a two period from June 20th to July 4th. Courses include COMM 426 Global Media Systems and COMM 447 Tourism and Travel. This program includes field trips to the Chianti wine district, Siena and San Gimignano; a three-day trip to Rome (with tours of the Forum, Coliseum, and Vatican Museums), and guided tours of the Uffizi gallery and Palazzo Pitti. Ensenada, Mexico (Intercession 2022)
This Tentative Intercession 2022 program will center around international public relations, with a focus on travel and tourism in Baja, California and Ensenada, Mexico. Credit will be earned for COM 470 International Public Relations, which is an elective for COM students and a collateral course for CTVA majors. The course will be offered in collaboration with CETYS, which is a university system within Mexico. The linkage with CETYS will allow CSUF students to work together with students from Mexico on a tourism based campaign project. From a logistical standpoint the course will start January 3rd with an orientation and background lectures and then will travel to Ensenada from January 4th-January 11th 2020. Ensenada, Mexico (Summer)
Get ready for an exciting and educational, but low cost summer program at CETYS University in Ensenada, Mexico. A unique experience that blends learning from international faculty from around the world (all in English) with visits to industry, as well as cultural and recreational activities. This direct enroll (transcript from CETYS) program runs from approximately July 19 to July August 1 2020. CETYS is offering scholarships to up to 20 CSUF students that will lower the cost of tution. In summer 2020 a number of business courses such as International Marketing are being offered, these will count as COMM collaterals and may count for business majors. In this program students take classes in the morning then have cultural activities and visit businesses/local industries in the afernoon. Visits include trips to the culutral center, wineries, companies, micro-breweries and even a chocolate factory. Ensenada is renowned for its tourist oriented activities such as surfing, scuba diving, kayaking, whale watching and sport fishing. It's also known for its award winning cuisine and is considered a safe environment. Salzburg College Internship Program (Summer) - Salzburg, Austria
This program was put in place to help CSUF students study in Europe, and affordably fulfill their internships. The cost is just $8000 for Tuition (9 units) and 12 weeks of room and board. Study near the alps in beautiful Salzburg, Austria at Salzburg College which delivers a high quality study abroad experience for English speaking students. Salzburg lies between Munich and Vienna and is centrally located within the heart of Europe which is easily accessible by train. Students enrolled in this very affordable 12 week summer program take courses in German, Austrian Culture and Business and complete an international internship (COM 495). IeiMedia Valencia Summer Journalism Program - Valencia Spain (Inactive)
Study in Valencia Spain with IeiMedia's journalism summer program, which is taught by professors from CSUF and other American Universities. Valencia is the 3rd largest city in Spain and is located on the coast of the beautiful Mediterranean Sea. This program trains students to write and produce content across a wide variety of platforms. Students that attend this program will take advantage of "home-stay" living arrangements that provide three meals a day provide a great opportunity to learn and practice Spanish. Students in this program will take COM 334 Feature Writing (which meets the CSUF writing requirement) with credit granted through Jamestown University. NEW!! Study Communications at Tecnologico de Monterrey in Mexico
This is a brand new program where students from CSUF can study for a semester in Mexico, taking courses in communications, mass communications, and graphic design. Students can choose from a number of campuses in the Tech de Monterrey system to choose from including Guadalajara and Nuevo Leon. Florence Semester Program - Florence Italy (Inactive)
This fall semester program allows you to live and study in beautiful Florence, Italy, while taking courses offered in the College of Communications. The program typically runs from Sept. 17-Dec. 10. Courses include COMM 334/352, Feature/Travel Writing; COMM 426, Global Media Systems; CTVA 350, Story Structure; CTVA 370, World Cinema; CTVA 377T: The Italian Cinema; CTVA 455, First Draft Screenplay; CTVA 456, Rewriting the Screenplay. Students also can take any online courses offered at CSUF, including COMM 425, History & Philosophy of American Mass Communication, COMM 407, Communications Law, and CTVA 300, Language of Film. Volda University College - Norway
Study communications and get GE courses in beautiful Norway at Volda University College, located in the small city of 
Volda. Volda university provides an excellent international educational experience combined with a valuable Norwegian cultural educational for English speaking students. Because this is an exchange program credits are easily transferred, and again all courses are in English. Volda is located on the western fjords of Norway, and is closer to Scenic Alesund and Bergen. Oslo the capital of Norway is 1 hour away by air, which is inexpensive. CSU PROGRAM: University of Uppsala - Uppsala, Sweden
Study communications in Sweden at Uppsala Universitet at an international university with a focus on communications and business. The University of Uppsala provides an excellent educational experience combined with a valuable Scandanavian cultural educational for English speaking students. Because this is a CSU Program credits are easily transferred, and again all courses are in English. Uppsala is located near Stockholm, which is the capital of Sweden. The beautiful fjords of Sweden, and Norway are nearby, and train travel to Oslo, Norway, or Copenhagen, Denmark is relatively inexpensive.
