Study Abroad Programs
The Maxwell Center manages international programs for the College of Communications at Cal State Fullerton. As part of its student centered internationally focused educational efforts the Maxwell Center has developed and will continue developing and supporting communications focused study abroad programs. Currently the list of programs includes those outlined below, and others will be added as they become available. Click on the links for additional information such as course programs, living arrangements, costs and contacts.
Short-Term Programs
COM Greece: Athens (Summer)
This summer program starts on the CSUF campus for the first 1/3 of the course. Students then travel to Greece with their professor and EF tours, touring Athens, and nearby islands while learning the history and culture of Greece. Courses include: HCOM 320 Intercultural Communication (GE & COM collateral). Cost includes tuition, airfare, hotel, and most meals. Cost is $4900
Florence Summer Program- in Florence Italy
This summer program allows you to live and study in beautiful Florence, Italy, while taking courses courses offered in the College of Communications. The program typically runs from June 3 to July 3. Courses include COMM 334/351, Feature/Travel Writing; COMM 426, Global Media Systems; CTVA 337T: The Italian Cinema; CTVA 360, International Reality TV; CTVA 375, Documentary Film & TV and HCOM 432, Contemporary Rhetoric. This program includes field trips to the Chianti wine district, Siena and San Gimignano; a three-day trip to Rome (with tours of the Forum, Coliseum, and Vatican Museums), and guided tours of the Uffizi gallery and Palazzo Pitti. Ensenada, Mexico (Intercession 2017)
This Intercession 2017 program will center around international public relations, with a focus on travel and tourism in Baja, California and Ensenada, Mexico. Credit will be earned for COM 470 International Public Relations, which is an elective for COM students and a collateral course for RTVF majors. The course will be offered in collaboration with CETYS, which is a university system within Mexico. The linkage with CETYS will allow CSUF students to work together with students from Mexico on a tourism based campaign project. From a logistical standpoint the course will start January 4th with an orientation and background lectures and then will travel to Ensenada from January 7th-January 13th 2017. Salzburg College (Summer) - in Salzburg Austria
This program was put in place to help CSUF students study in Europe, and affordably fulfill their internships. The cost is just $7000 for Tuition (9 units) and 10 weeks of room and board. Study near the alps in beautiful Salzburg, Austria at Salzburg College which delivers a high quality study abroad experience for English speaking students. Salzburg lies between Munich and Vienna and is centrally located within the heart of Europe which is easily accessible by train. Students enrolled in this very affordable 10 week summer program take courses in German, Austrian Culture and Business and complete an international internship (COM 495). IeiMedia Valencia Summer Journalism Program- Valencia Spain
Study in Valencia Spain with IeiMedia's journalism summer program, which is taught by professors from CSUF and other American Universities. Valencia is the 3rd largest city in Spain and is located on the coast of the beautiful Mediterranean Sea. This program trains students to write and produce content across a wide variety of platforms. Students that attend this program will take advantage of "home-stay" living arrangements that provide three meals a day provide a great opportunity to learn and practice Spanish. Semester PROGRAMS
DIMA (Dong-Ah Institute for Media and Arts) is a state of the art communications oriented college located in Anseong South Korea, which is just 40 minutes from beautiful Seoul. DIMA features professional level studios and equipment as well as internationally reknowned faculty in film, entertainment, media, and media management. Students can take required & collateral courses (all in English!) including: CTVA 325/425 video field production, CTVA 327/427video/editing post-production, CTVA 210 audio production, COM 310 media ethics, COM 321 photography, COM 362 PR Writing,COM 470 international PR, COM 410 research methods, and others. Shenyang City University- in Shenyang China
Shenyang City University features a modern college of communications and media which is located on a beautiful campus in Northeast China. Shenyang is home to 8 million people and hosts a large number of large foreign companies. The beauty of SYCU's campus stems from its history as a resort, and the campus also hosts a college of hotel and hospitality management. Students can take required & collateral courses (all in English!) including: Chinese 100/101, Global/Chinese Media COM 426, CTVA 325/425 video field production, CTVA 327/427 video/editing post-production. All students also receive an international communications internship (COM/ CTVA 495).
Florence Semester Program- in Florence Italy
This fall semester program allows you to live and study in beautiful Florence, Italy, while taking courses offered in the College of Communications. The program typically runs from Sept. 17-Dec. 10. Courses include COMM 334/352, Feature/Travel Writing; COMM 426, Global Media Systems; CTVA 350, Story Structure; CTVA 370, World Cinema; CTVA 377T: The Italian Cinema; CTVA 455, First Draft Screenplay; CTVA 456, Rewriting the Screenplay. Students also can take any online courses offered at CSUF, including COMM 425, History & Philosophy of American Mass Communication, COMM 407, Communications Law, and CTVA 300, Language of Film. This program includes filed trips to the Chianti wine district, Siena and San Gimignano, a four-day excursion to Rome (with tours of the Forum, Coliseum, and Vatican Museums) and a three-day visit to Turin (with tours of the Museo Nazionale del Cinema and the Museo Egizio di Torino), plus guided tours of the Uffizi gallery and Palazzo Pitti. Volda University College, Norway
Study communications and get GE courses in beautiful Norway at Volda University College, located in the small city of Volda. Volda university provides an excellent international educational experience combined with a valuable Norwegian cultural educational for English speaking students. Because this is an exchange program credits are easily transferred, and again all courses are in English. Volda is located on the western fjords of Norway, and is closer to Scenic Alesund and Bergen. Oslo the capital of Norway is 1 hour away by air, which is inexpensive. CSU PROGRAM: University of Uppsala in Uppsala Sweden
Study communications in Sweden at Uppsala Universitet at an international university with a focus on communications and business. The University of Uppsala provides an excellent educational experience combined with a valuable Scandanavian cultural educational for English speaking students. Because this is a CSU Program credits are easily transferred, and again all courses are in English. Uppsala is located near Stockholm, which is the capital of Sweden. The beautiful fjords of Sweden, and Norway are nearby, and train travel to Oslo, Norway, or Copenhagen, Denmark is relatively inexpensive.
