Nine COMD students attended the Allied Health Academy end of the year celebration 2017-2018 on Friday, April 28 at 5:00-8:30pm

Allied Health Academy (AHA) is supported by the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) grant. Co-lead of this grant is Dr. Sora Tanjasiri, Chair of the Health Science in the College of Health and Human Development. End of the year celebration featured the AHA members’ successes by giving cords to the graduating seniors and certificates of the completion of their internship. The following COMD students were recognized at the event.

Maria Campos graduates Magna Cum Laude in May. She has been a full-time student, had two part-time jobs, volunteered for two different sites while maintaining competitive GPA. She will begin her graduate program at Loma Linda University in fall 2018.

Nayelie Hernandez served as the Allied Health Academy peer Mentor (fall2016-spring 2017). She received the Edith Li Communicative Disorders Service Award in Spring 2017. She served as a Spanish interpreter at the CSUF Speech and Hearing Clinic in fall 2017, and received Spanish for Health and Human Services Professions Bilingual Certificate in June 2017. She will begin her graduate study at CSUF in fall 2018.

Zaira Laguna found her career pathway in the Public Health through participating in the Allied Health Academy and participated in UCLA Public Health Training Summer program. She is the Dream Coop cofounder and California Dream Network Advocate. She is on the COMD Spring 2017 Dean’s list.

Eva Zuniga is successfully completing her B.A. She juggled school and a full-time job, but successfully completed her education. She reflects that the Allie Health Academy has been a phenomenal program that exposed her to different resources that have been very helpful throughout her academic journey.

Diana Quan found her passion in Gerontology while she participated in the Allied Health Academy.

Victoria Elias, Anayanci Delgado, Anyssa Bell, and Julissa Sandoval are currently participating in the Allied Health Academy internship. They are completing 120 hours of on-site work supervised by a graduate-level preceptor and 60 hours of professional development. Successful interns receive a $1000 stipend. Julissa Sandoval is currently working on her research internship with Dr. HyeKyeung Seung. Julissa presented her work, Childhood Apraxia of Speech (CAS): Do minimally verbal children with autism have CAS?, at the event.
