2019 Outstanding Lecturer: Therese Cooper
Therese Cooper, lecturer in Communication Sciences and Disorders, was awarded the Lecturer of the Year Award for California State University, Fullerton for 2019 at an Academic Senate meeting. Ms. Cooper has taught undergraduate coursework in the department as well as served as a clinical supervisor in the university’s Speech and Hearing Clinic. She is the founding advisor for Students for Smiles, a student club which raises money for the nonprofit organization Smile Train to provide free corrective surgeries to children with cleft palates and lips. In her acceptance speech, Ms. Cooper stated, “Wow-thank you so much! I never, ever imagined being a professor at this level. It has been such a blessing. I love this place, and I love our students, and I appreciate you all so very much.” An alumnus, Rico Marshello stated, “Therese taught me that being a clinician goes beyond what we learn through the classroom; it is going the extra mile and genuinely loving and caring for each patient.”
