Gayle Jansen Brisbane is former broadcast sports and news veteran, current media research scholar and associate professor in the Department of Communications at California State University Fullerton. She regularly teaches the Capstone course – COMM 472 - TV News Production as well as COMM 336 - Sports Broadcast Journalism. She has also taught COMM 325 - Multimedia Journalism and COMM 202 - Digital Reporting and Production.
Her research examines the progress of women in sports media as well as the intersection of religion, politics, and the media in our current politically divisive climate. Jansen Brisbane earned a Ph.D. in media research and practice from the University of Colorado Boulder, a master’s degree in professional writing from Chatham University as well as a B.A. in communications from Pepperdine University.
Jansen Brisbane spent 20 years as a broadcast sports journalist. She worked at KSAZ-TV (FOX10) in Phoenix, Ariz. for 16 years as a broadcast sports anchor/reporter and news reporter. Prior to her long stay in Arizona, she worked for KEZI-TV (ABC9) in Eugene, Ore. where she was the weekend sports anchor/reporter. While at KEZI, in addition to her sports duties, she created, produced, and hosted a weekly series for her station called, Oregon Outdoors for two years. The series focused on outdoor activities in Oregon, such as rock climbing, skydiving, mountain biking, winter sports, etc. She also hosted a national television show, Great Hikes, for the Outdoor Life Network (OLN). Additionally, she worked for the NBA’s Los Angeles Clippers in marketing and sponsorship.
