Welcome to the Department of Communications!
The Department of Communications is home to about 1,550 students and 75 faculty members, making it one of the largest academic programs at Cal State Fullerton and one of the largest communications departments in the United States.
The department also operates international programs, a graduate program, numerous laboratory facilities, an internship center, award-winning student media, a student advertising and public relations agency, a week-long signature university event called COMM Week, and many student clubs, organizations and competitions. (See the latest COMMunique newsletter here).
Effective ethical communications are essential for the well-being of a democratic society. Thus, there is a need for persons trained in the theory and practice of informing, instructing, and persuading through communications media.
The educational objectives of the Department of Communications are 1) To ensure that all majors receive a broad liberal education; 2) To provide majors with a clear understanding of the role of communications media in society; and 3) To prepare majors desiring communications-related careers in the mass media, business, government and education by educating them in depth in one of the specialized concentrations within the department.
Department Degree Programs
The Department offers a B.A. and M.A. in Communications.
