Cal State Fullerton’s National Association for Hispanic Journalists (NAHJ) had a guest speaker attend their Feb. 22 meeting over zoom to discuss life within the broadcast sports and entertainment radio industry. By bringing those who work in different fields within journalism media to panels, NAHJ creates a space for their members to feel seen, have their questions answered and even gain perspective on various career avenues.

Natalia Perez has simultaneously worked in broadcast sports and entertainment journalism. She is currently the co-host of Big Boys Neighborhood on The Real 92.3 FM, covers Hollywood red carpet events and hosts the pre-show for the Los Angeles Dodgers.

Perez shared with NAHJ how to become a successful radio host and her transition from entertainment to sports radio. She interviews artists like Post Malone, Saweetie, Snoop Dogg, and Dr. Dre.

She told the group that when interviewing people live, especially celebrities, the ones with great energy and show they want to be interviewed are the most memorable for her and the listeners.

Check out CSUF’s chapter of NAHJ since they focus on networking opportunities, mentorships, panels and workshops. Their goal is to help future journalists develop skills to thrive in all avenues of news media.

“This event was the continuation of a string of good events soon to come presented by Latino Journalists of CSUF. We are on the rise,” said Robert Rodriguez, public relations specialist for NAHJ, in an email.
