Cal State Fullerton’s Latino Communications Institute (LCI) held its first event of the semester on Mar. 8 at 12 p.m. in College Park. The first event of the spring 2023 semester was the Spring Break Reception, where LCI reintroduced itself to students and faculty within the College of Communications.
LCI’s Spring Break Reception was held to revisit and share the definition, mission and vision of the program, while also allowing for a space to network between faculty and students. They wanted to let students know that their main goal is inclusiveness.
For those that could not attend or are not familiar with LCI, the program focuses on providing students pursuing communications with mentorship and research opportunities. Their program’s vision is to be a leader when ensuring equal experiences for all Latinx students so they are able to thrive and accomplish their goals, both academically and professionally.
LCI is working on creating new opportunities in its program, such as mentorship programs and research opportunities for students at CSUF.
Dean Bey-Ling Sha and Dean Deanna Leone attended the event to share their support. Sha emphasized the importance of making sure LCI thrives because representation is essential.
LCI’s student assistant, Andres Webster Cabrera, said he was amazed by the socializing that took place after the presentations.
“I turned around for a second, and when I looked, everyone was talking with each other and laughing. I was astonished at how welcoming, and familiar everyone felt, especially considering this was many’s first LCI event,” said Webster Cabrera.
