Cal State Fullerton’s Entertainment and Tourism Club (ETC) held a Talent and Public Relations panel on Apr. 5. The panel informed students what a talent and public relations career may look like if they decide to pursue a career in that sector.
Students networked with panelists and learned more about their possible careers. All the panelists reiterated to the students to keep themselves grounded to avoid getting overwhelmed by the job.
Holly Johnson, the director of internal communications for ETC, explained that the environment was comfortable and made networking and answering questions easy.
“The energy between the panelists was really easy and fun. It made it easy for the students to be engaged in what they were saying,” Johnson said.
The panelists had very diverse backgrounds in the entertainment and tourism field:
For six years, Angie Lucania has been Entertainment Lab's talent and literary manager. Their company focuses on guiding and developing careers of already established actors, writers and directors. Talent managers help artists build their careers and potential, managing all their daily activities so the talent has time to concentrate on their work.
Ryan Aguirre works in public relations as the executive director of publicity for The Walt Disney Company. He has since worked for 20th Century Fox, AMC Networks, CBS Television Studios and Starz.
Ryan Chingcuangco is the senior publicist of publicity and target marketing for Paramount Pictures. He has worked for the famed studio since 2019, where h has worked on the publicity campaigns of some of the most successful films, including Top Gun: Maverick, Smile, Scream, Sonic the Hedgehog 2 and A Quiet Place Part II.
Shanda Williamson is the publicity manager at HBO and HBO Max for Warner Bros. Discovery. She has created promotional content for shows such as Gossip Girl, Legendary and Mr. Robot. She also writes speeches and promotional scripts for talent, ranging from Harrison Ford to Goldie Hawn to Hugh Jackman.
All of the panelists made sure to explain the importance of internships. They explained that internships help students try new things and better understand what they like and do not like. By doing this, students can narrow down what they want to pursue in entertainment and tourism.
