Outstanding Graduate Students
Bayla Gomberg, Graduate Student Teaching/Research Assistant
Bayla Gomberg was a standout in her graduate courses and highly sought after by her professors to serve as a teaching assistant. She officially served as Dr. King's TA, tutoring students, grading and preparing lesson content. She also assisted other faculty in various capacities. Dr. King said that Bayla conducted herself like a seasoned instructor, contributing valued improvements to the course. In addition, Bayla served as a publicist and digital media manager for the department, developing web and social media content. For her exit project she developed promotional materials for the graduate program.
Hamilton Schmid, Professional Communications Student
Hamilton Schmid's project, carried out for Voices for Children of San Diego was outstanding in its scope and quality. Faculty say that Hamilton was an outstanding student to work with. She’s thoughtful, articulate, inquisitive, and easily mastered important concepts. Hamilton has started a business as an independent practitioner doing “online business and project management, virtual assistance and communications consultation.” Her focus is on helping female entrepreneurs grow their own businesses.
Dina Saad, Research and Theory Graduate Student
Faculty describe Dina Saad as a superstar in the graduate program and the department. She is an energetic and self-motivated student who has made opportunities for herself to gain meaningful experience while pursuing her studies. Most notably she took a leading role in producing Communication Week. She also served as a teaching assistant and is completing her thesis this semester, titled International Students’ Perceptions of Student Services at U.S. Universities.
Lauren Sosa, Tourism & Entertainment Graduate Student
According to her professors, Lauran Sosa is a very good researcher and writer and an excellent student. She secured a job in the tourism industry last fall when she got a job with Destination America in Cerritos.
