Two of Cal State Fullerton’s entertainment-based clubs–– Entertainment and Tourism Club (ETC) and Behind the Scenes (BTS) club–– collaborated to host a Halloween social for its members. The social lasted from 7-9 p.m. and was held in Titan Student Union’s Pub.

When asked about the motivation for the collaboration, ETC’s president, Maya Serrano, shared, “I wanted to work with BTS for an event since our clubs are so similar to one another.”

Both ETC and BTS are based around similar interests: entertainment. Therefore, it was only a matter of time for the clubs to align and collaborate on an event. It was significant for members of each club to network with each other and familiarize themselves with their peers who have similar interests.

“This ETC x BTS collaboration has been a long time coming,” BTS’s president Erine Lamb noted, “both clubs put in so much effort to make this event the success that it is.”

When students stepped into the TSU Pub, they were enveloped in a Halloween ambiance; they were greeted with spooky Halloween decor and a photo backdrop to take pictures in front of. Students quickly conversed with one another, filling the room with laughter and marveling over one another’s costumes as they enjoyed pizza and Halloween-themed drinks.

As the night progressed, attendees participated in various games coordinated by each club.

The first game, organized by ETC, was Telephone Charades. Like the regular game of Telephone, one person must communicate a curated message to the next player. However, this game had a twist. Instead of verbally communicating the message, each person had to act out or gesture the phrase given to them by ETC. Some phrases that students had to act out to their teammates included ‘howling at the moon’ and ‘carving a pumpkin’.

The second ETC game was titled Halloween Showcase. Similar to telephone charades, this game required some acting skills and creativity. Students were given hypothetical Halloween-related scenarios and instructed to craft the rest of the narrative.  One scenario involved ad-libbing off an infamous scene from the horror movie “Scream”. Attendees were shown a clip of Drew Berrymore’s character talking on the phone to Ghostface within the first few minutes of the film.

Students were then tasked to develop the following few scenes of the film. They could be true to the original plot or be as creative and outlandish as they wanted. Each group performed in front of the crowd as everyone laughed and enjoyed each other’s creations.

The final game was a murder mystery organized by BTS. The game consisted of plots, clues and characters with backstories that participants had to investigate to solve the murder. Students put on their detective caps to follow the clues and win the game.

As the evening wrapped, various awards were given out to attendees who were best dressed, most creative, scariest, etc.

BTS’s president, Erine Lamb, said, “Everyone showed up and went all out with their costumes; it was fantastic!”
