When asked why the club chose a karaoke night as a social event, BTS marketing intern Liliana Carillo replied, “I think it’s great because we get to connect with our members on a less professional level.”
“We’re also giving them the opportunity to meet new people,” Carillo stated.
As the students entered the Pub, they were provided Costco pizza and root beer floats, courtesy of BTS. The club also set up a Y2K-themed photo wall for students to pose in front of for pictures with their friends.
For the first 45 minutes of the event, students chatted amongst each other freely while popular Y2K hit songs played in the background to set the mood.
Finally, at 8:00 p.m., the themed ‘year 2000’ games began. With approximately 40 students in attendance, groups were divided into four teams.
The first game up: "Name that Tune." The objective: be the first group to hit the game buzzer and name the famous Y2K tune played before the other group. In a total of three rounds, each team competed against each other for the championship title.

The competitive nature of all the students came out to play during this game, with the buzzer being pressed so hard it found its way to the floor more than once. The championing team won a goodie bag filled with Y2K paraphernalia such as slinkies, thin sunglasses and water game toys.
The second activity of the evening was a musical impressions game. BTS organized two randomized online spinners, one containing various famous artists from the Y2K era and the second having an abundance of popular 2000s music.
Volunteers stood in front of the room and clicked each spinner, revealing what famous song they had to sing and which artist’s musical style they had to sing it in. Amongst the volunteers, two brave attendees sang in Mariah Carey’s impressive vocal style, while one sang in the style of Outkast.

For the last 30 minutes of the event, the impressions activity gave way to karaoke of all musical eras. From singing along to Olivia Rodrigo’s “Deja Vu” to Alica Keys's “If I Ain’t Got You,” all attendees had a good time and enjoyed their peers' company.
