Daily Titan takes home multiple awards

The 2024 Associated Collegiate Press (ACP) Spring National Media Conference was held at the Hyatt Regency La Jolla at Aventine from Mar. 7 - 9. Several students from the Daily Titan attended and left with several student media awards. 

 

The conference included three days of keynote speakers, media critiques, breakout sessions, roundtables and much more. The conference concluded on Mar. 9 with many awards ceremonies including Best of Show, Individual Awards and the California College Media Association (CCMA) awards competition. 

 

STUDENT MEDIA AWARDS: The Daily Titan won six Best of Show awards at the ACP Conference, including the following staff awards:

  •   First place: Advertising Media Kit
  •   Fifth place: Website
  •   Fifth place: Digital Newsletter
Alexia and Gottie 2024
Daily Titan Editor-in-Chief Alexcia Negrete and Digital Managing Editor Gottie Chavez show the Daily Titan’s two California College Media Awards at the awards ceremony. Chavez was one of five students who contributed to a portfolio of five stories that won second place for best social justice coverage.

 

In addition, three students won individual awards:

  •   Second place: Ruka Yuga , Advertisement: Print, Online, Video or Audio – Teaching is a chance to change the world, CSUF Department of Secondary Education.
  •   Third place: Paige Strickland , Reporting: Diversity, Equity and Inclusion – CSUF Drag Show winner forges their own runway .
  •   Eighth place: Jordan Rivera , Photojournalism: Sports Photo – Men's soccer clinches No. 1 seed in Big West playoffs.

 

Separate from these ACP Best of Show awards, Daily Titan students earned honors in the CCMA awards competition, held in conjunction with the ACP conference:

  • Second place: Ruka Yaga , Best Print Advertisement – Teaching is a chance to change the world, CSUF Department of Secondary Education.
  • Second place: Emily Melgar , Gottie Chavez , Mahealani Wu , Gigi Gradillas and Paige Strickland , Best Social Justice Coverage – Cal State Fullerton still struggles to hire diverse faculty (Melgar); Palestinian roots motivate CSUF student body president (Chavez); CSUF to take repatriation more seriously under CSU guidance (Wu and Gradillas); ASI panel boosts queer visibility at CSUF (Wu); CSUF Drag Show winner forges their own runway (Strickland).
