Summer Carnett Martin (Ph.D., University of Illinois) is an Associate Professor in the Department of Human Communication Studies at CSU Fullerton. Dr. Martin specializes in health and interpersonal communication, and particularly loves teaching and conducting research in these areas. Examples of courses taught include research methods (HCOM 300, HCOM 509) and classes focusing on interpersonal or health communication (such as HCOM 318, HCOM 413, HCOM 425, and HCOM 429).

Dr. Martin has investigated a variety of interpersonal health communication topics related to chronic illness (for instance, uncertainty, social support, and the communication of identity). Her work has been honored with top paper awards by NCA and WSCA, and has been published in various journals, including Communication MonographsHealth CommunicationJournal of Genetic Counseling, Journal of Family NursingJournal of Neuroscience NursingQualitative Health ResearchQualitative Communication Research, and Communication & Medicine.
